2014 Sparkman HS Color Guard Auditions

The new schedule for auditions will be the rest of this week and then will resume May 12-15 with final evaluations on May 15, 2014.

Each spring the Sparkman High School Band provides a free clinic for students interested in becoming a member of the Sparkman High School Color Guard.  The clinic typically takes place for a few hours each day after school for a week.  At the end of the clinic an audition is conducted and members are selected to participate for the following season.

Students that wish to attend the clinic and audition for the Sparkman High School Color Guard simply need to show up wearing form fitting clothing and tennis shoes during the scheduled events.  Fundamentals and group routines will be taught during the clinic by a qualified instructor and auditions will be judged by a panel of qualified judges.

No prior experience is needed as a prerequisite but interested students should possess a good attitude and a strong work ethic as well as maintain good report within the school.

What Am I Getting Into?

The Sparkman High School Color Guard consists of a group of highly dedicated students that work very hard throughout the entire school year.  During marching season the guard will perform with the Sparkman High School Band at all performances.  During the spring semester the guard will participate with Indoor Winter Guard and compete throughout the Southeast in various SCGC and WGI competitions.

All guard members must take the color guard class in order to participate.  This class is a performance based class and the student's grade will reflect their attendance and participation in both class activities as well as after school activities and performances.

Both band fees and additional color guard fees will apply to each guard member.  Students will also be expected to purchase uniforms and other equipment they may use throughout the school year.

Despite the amount of time and resources required to be a member of the Sparkman Color Guard, those who participate will agree it is one of the most rewarding experiences a student can have during their high school career.
